This pretty three drawer chest is very light in weight, typical of late nineteenth century English pieces made of “deal”, as this type of pine was known. The wood is clear with an almost imperceptible grain pattern. The warm color is more often found in American pine and the design is simple and unadorned.
The top has rounded corners and a step-down routed edge. The drawers are slightly graduated with delicate hand-cut dovetails front and back. Each drawer has its original lock, in good working order, and its inset brass escutcheon. Keys are not supplied but could be made. The turned knobs are original and are mounted with a wooden screw through the back of the drawer front. The knobs are of beechwood and their blonde color provides a nice contrast on the golden pine. The chest stands on tall turned feet.
