Painted Pine Storage Bench or Settle

This massive pine double storage bench has a long straight back rail with an applied crest about five inches high. The back rails and stiles frame two short flat panels, a pattern repeated on the high arms.  The interior storage compartment is accessed by lifting the seat, which is in two sections, both braced from the underside.  The whole bench is painted a pretty powder blue over an earlier dark finish.  The back and seat are decorated with several white stylized floral motifs which are hand-painted, though at first sight they appear to be stencils.  This piece would be great for a waiting room, games room, or reception.
