English Pine Wardrobe

This charming little wardrobe is about as plain and simple and well-made as a piece of English pine furniture can be.  Beneath a tidy crown molding are two paneled doors and one deep, delicately dovetailed drawer with original oak knobs. The sides are each from a single board and the face frame is through –tenoned at every join.  Originally fitted with wooden hanging pegs, now missing, the piece was retrofitted some decades ago with two chrome hanging poles.  These run front to back, because the wardrobe’s shallow profile, with only 13” interior depth, does not accommodate hanging side to side.   The solution is perfect, but the wardrobe could be fitted with fixed or adjustable shelves, to offer a versatile storage solution for the guest room, office, basement, or mudroom.  In addition, the wide-swinging doors make this a great piece for hiding a flat screen TV and some gnawing at the back suggests at least one previous owner used it for storing dry goods.  Well-worn but in very good condition and polished to a light honey glow.  Original working lock with replacement key.

England, circa 1870.
