Pine Two Door Knock Down Armoire

This is a very stately and spacious early two door armoire in the Baroque style, from Denmark.  A bold crown molding follows the beautifully smoothly rounded front corners and is embellished beneath with a central shield motif, applied decorative moldings and wooden buttons.  The two doors, each with two raised panels and applied moldings, open a full 180 degrees on brass fiche hinges, and close with iron bolts to the left door and the original working lock and key on the right.  The two deep hand-cut dovetailed drawers each bear an applied stylized diamond motif in oak and lock with the insertion of a wooden peg through the interior floor of the armoire.

Constructed using traditional joinery techniques and wooden pegs, this piece still has very little metal, only a few nails and screws having been used in restoration.  For ease of transportation and installation, the whole piece comes apart at the centre stile, locking together with the old wooden tenon and key fittings at the top and the base,

In very good sturdy condition and with a beautiful patina.

Denmark, circa 1820.
